What is SSIG?

SSIG is an Interest Group within the Academic Library Association of Ohio with a focus on Support Staff and Support Staff issues.

What we do:

SSIG sponsors a session at the ALAO Annual Conference and a one day workshop in the Spring. In addition, SSIG sponsors annual awards for a Support Staff member who exhibits excellence on the job and contributes to bettering Support Staff throughout the state, as well as an award for a librarian or administrator who encourages and supports Support Staff in their environment and throughout the state.

Our purpose:

The purpose of the ALAO SSIG is to identify issues and areas of mutual concern among Support Staff and to develop communication for the purpose of resource sharing and continuing education.

Our goals:

To encourage the participation of all colleagues within the profession to achieve the common goal of quality service.
To foster positive working relationships among Support Staff at all levels in academic libraries.
To develop a professional identity for support positions and to enhance the professional atmosphere within academic libraries.
To promote cohesiveness among Support Staff statewide.
To promote the exchange of ideas among individuals with similar responsibilities in academic libraries.

What you can do:

You can sign up for the SSIG listserv to stay up to date with issues concerning Support Staff and discuss issues with colleagues throughout the state. You can also sign up to participate on the SSIG committee which plans SSIG events throughout the year. Please visit our website www.alaoweb.org/comsigs/ssig/ for information.
